When will Asians finally be accepted as People of Color?

voguedissent:

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, and in his honor, the Black students’ union sent out an email summing up MLK’s life, politics and legacy, along with a reminder of what we students can do. The email was sent to the Black students’ union email listserv and the Latino students’ union listserv.

But not to the Asian students’ union listserv.

Why the resistance to including Asians as people

Equality is a Fantasy

EDIT: Wow, that was quicker than expected! This has been up for about fifteen minutes, and I’ve already been trolled for being racist (despite saying more than once that this was in no way meant to be racist)! Well, at least it was a troll with sources. So, to clear up the confusion, let me explain myself. I said that I was looking for a scholarship to help me get through college. I didn’t say that every white person went through that, but that I recently had that problem. I feel the same way about that scholarship as I do about the left-handed scholarship. I don’t think that it’s fair that I can’t get it just because I’m white/right-handed. Thank you, RaceMash, for your constructive criticism, and I do appreciate your sources. I’ve always liked the intelligent trolls who have good arguments.

Saying something is not intended to be racist doesn’t make it not racist.

You wrote racist things despite your intentions, therefore you displayed racist behavior.
And FYI this is the internet. Your opinions are not sacred, they are public domain. If you want to type your ignorant heart out, password protect your entries or better yet just join reddit or stormfront. You’ll find lots of support in both places.

My Moderately Interesting Life and Views: Equality is a Fantasy

WARNING: If you get offended easily, then I strongly suggest that you not read this article.

As I stated above, this rant will feature some topics that are touchy to some people. Also, this may sound racist, but I did not intend for it to. However, you read the warning, so if you don’t like it,…

Congratulations, you made the “Friendly Racist Friday” lineup.

And FYI the guy who heads up fastweb.com and finaid.org recently published a study that shows the racial breakdown of scholarship recipients by race.

White students account for 76% of institutional merit based scholarships and grants. They are also 40% more likely to win private scholarships over minority students.

When one of the biggest resources for scholarships on the whole of the internet can say that white kids get most college money, and they can back it up with data, you might want to sit down and think long and hard about your misinformed opinions.

I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races; I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people….There must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.

Basically a blog dealing with racial issues, mostly in America but with some posts about other countries as well. While there will be many posts dealing with the black/white binary, I also hope to shed much focus on race issues concerning First Peoples, Latinos, Middle Easterners, South Asians, East Asians, Southeast Asians, people who are bi or multiracial, and any other minority groups I may have forgotten to mention.
