The story talks about the difficult conditions under which the Navy special warfare community (Navy SEALs) have to train, including simulated conditions in which they go through rooms that are designed to resemble “a mosque, bank, post office, market and residential compound. In one section, nine chairs painted in primary hues sit behind desks in an elementary school classroom.”The story doesn’t mention it, but something caught my eye: the image that they are using for target practice is unmistakably that of a Muslim woman wearing hijab, with what looks like Qur’anic inscriptions behind her on the wall.
These houses are called “kill houses.”
The person who designed these so-called “kill houses” touts their high technology: Larry Pacifico, “who manages the complex, said instructors will control each scenario using an iPad to adjust the lighting and movement of the targets. Cameras will record the action, so SEALs will find out where the bullets they fired came to rest, he said, down to specific bones and organs.”
Apparently the Navy has enough concern about technology to want to know which bones and which organs the Navy SEALs would be hitting, but not enough concern to know that they are taking target practice shooting at Muslim women.
Yeah, we are not at war with Islam, they keep telling us.
We just train our most skilled soldiers to kill Muslim women.God have mercy on us.
It’s not so much that this looks bad.
This is bad. It’s rotten to the core.
Can the folks in charge at the NAVY not see how this contributes to the dehumanizing of Muslims, not just Muslim women, not just Muslim civilians, but all Muslims?

Should we allow Islam in America? (TW for massive trolling)
Yes, but as long as they abide by the American constitution and values first, and display a deep love for America. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen that, as evidenced by the several American born Islamic terrorists, the most prominent of them being Anwar al-Awlaki. Islam is against freedom, as evidenced by their treatment of women and as further evidenced by lack of democracy in most countries where Islam is the main religion. Even when countries claim to be democracies in Islamic states, they are just a front for corrupt bureaucracies (Pakistan, Indonesia).
I recently overheard a discussion between two classmates about the modern meat industry and ways of butchering livestock. Not so much of a discussion per say, since they pretty much agreed on all of the things they said. Here are some of the points they made:
1.) If you choose to eat meat and buy it commercially, you must also be able to watch video footage of how factory farming works.
2.) The meat industry is a terrible thing.
3.) Even worse is halal slaughter.
4.) It is outrageous that courses on halal slaughter are being offered and that this is yet another symptom of the rising “Islamization” of the country.
Halal slaughter is a controversial topic. The term halal means “permissible” and in this case refers to food that Muslims can eat. According to Islamic law, animals need to be killed in a certain way: a sharp knife is used to make a deep cut on the animal’s throat and let it bleed to death. This is not a method that is exclusive to the Islamic faith - this is also similar to the Jewish kosher. In fact, this method is being practiced all over the world and religion has very little to do with it. This is a method primarily used by my home country, which is predominantly Christian.
A hateful tone appeared in my classmates’ discussion, especially as they started talking about the rising “Islamization” of the country. I was standing right next to them, and carefully pointed out that this method is not exclusive to the Muslims, and that if there is a growing demand for halal-slaughtered meat, why shouldn’t that demand be met? I come from a family of farmers, and we have also used the same method for centuries in my home country with no religious overtones whatsoever.
Oh wow, I should have kept my mouth shut. Because I was then bombarded with comments of how barbaric and inhumane that is - that it was wrong, cruel to the animal and a pretty ass-backwards way of life. There we were: 2 white men lecturing me, a POC, about how our way of life is barbaric and inhumane! I couldn’t believe it - the whole situation made me want to rip my hair out.
I can no longer look at these people without remembering this, and whenever they look at me, I feel so small. I can’t help but wonder what other assumptions they have made of me, my family, my country and culture.
Reading the bolded part really drives the point home.
