cause ya’ll, we have a history of taking part in the marginalization/oppression/murders of black people, just to uphold white supremacy. cause sometimes our every action includes stepping on Black People to feel just a lil better about ourselves, just a lil closer to whitey.

This article hits me like a ton of bricks. It’s because when I read this article, I sincerely felt like I could have wrote the same thing in my sleep besides the obvious personal details from the author. Beyond real.

A black man and his family were held at gunpoint by their new neighbors while they were trying to change the locks in Newton, GA reported WSBTV.

The Kalonji Family had just closed the purchase on a foreclosed home and were excited to begin the moving process. The realtor advised the family to begin by changing the locks on their new home.

Jean Kalonji was in the process of changing the locks on the front door when their new neighbors mistook the Kalonji’s for thieves breaking into the house and confronted them with guns.

“He say to put the hands up and get out from the house otherwise he would shoot us,” recounted Jean about the incident.

Angelica Kalonji, Jean’s wife stated:

“I get up my hands up, they put me by the wall.”

The neighbors held the Kalonji’s at gunpoint and called the local authorities not believing they were the owners of the house. When authorities arrived they arrested the family who did not have the closing paper work with them at the time, charging them with loitering and prowling.

The realtor, Yvette Harris, said the deputies had no right to arrest the couple, stating:

“They rightfully own this house.”

According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mark Mitchell authorities are investigating why everything that happened.

“We’re kind of on the ground floor to this as far as looking into it exactly what occurred, why it occurred.”

The experience brought back painful memories to Jean who was raised in the Congo.

“There, they put me down with the gun to my head. Here, the same.”

Saw this yesterday on my way into work. See so many of them around this area, they sort of all blend together. But this one was just… literally too big to ignore. Ahhh white people.

The first dozen times I saw one of these was in my home state… of Michigan.

I shit you not, no one has ever told the white folks of the Mitten that we are not, and have never been a Confederate state.

Friend of mine from Canada tells me the rednecks up there fly it too.

In the mid 1930s, Sweden also installed one of the most effective sterilization programs ever, a eugenicist project that was both racialized, heteronormative, gendered and classed, and that affected more than 60,000 Swedes before being dissolved in the mid-1970s.

Three big white cops in three cop cars.

One pulls me over because I don’t have my bike light on (it’s dead, and come on, it’s Portland— people ride bikes without lights all the fucking time).

Pig #1 asks me for my ID. I ask him why he’s stopping me and why he wants to see my ID. I am feeling defensive and jumpy— these are the same pigs who killed unarmed black man Aaron Campbell and other men of color this year and got away with it (Ron Frashour, the pig who shot Campbell in the back, is still on the force and patrolling the street).

I’ve always been hateful and scared of police. It comes from being a child of undocumented immigrants and growing up knowing that the cops are not your friends.

Pig #1 gets irate. I ask him what will happen to me if I give him my ID, and he does not like this. He calls over Pigs #2 and #3.

Pigs #1,2, and 3 are all surrounding me, hands on their guns and tasers. I am getting more jumpy now. They start mocking me and pushing my buttons. I look them in the eyes to show them that I am defiant, that they have no authority over me and that I am not afraid of them.

Having only 5 hours of sleep last night, and needing to wake up early tomorrow, I’m not going to type a lot about this, but I did want to write something down so that I won’t forget it.

One of my co-workers is a black gentleman who grew up in Indiana during the 1930s and 40s.  A very scary time to be in this state.

When I worked tonight, he was telling me how he, along with many other black men, were taught how to act and behave, especially around white people.

we’re as varied as our history forced us to be. we’re black, we’re white, we’re cafe-con-leche, trigueña, jabao, whatever. saying that we all have to look one way is not only racist as fuck but erases the history of slavery and genocide that colors us in more ways than one.
